At the Des Moines Area Interfaith Hospitality Network (DMIHN) we strive to create a safe, stable and nurturing environment for the children as well as to support the efforts of their parents in securing employment and housing. We do this through a network of 13 area religious congregations who provide shelter and nutritious meals for one week every three months. During their host week, volunteers from the congregation create a home-like atmosphere where guests can receive what they need: rest, hope, respect, confidence boosting and a sense of control in their lives. On average, this network of over 1,000 volunteers amasses 12,000volunteer hours, provide 3,000 nights of lodging and serve r 9,100 meals annually. As you browse our website, you’ll find additional information about DMIHN –accessing services, joining our network as a Host or Support Congregation, volunteering either at a host congregation or our Day Center, and making a financial contribution – an investment, if you will, in the lives of our guest families and their children. If you’re not actively involved with the Des Moines Area Interfaith Hospitality Network, I invite you today to become a part of our “community response to homelessness”. Blessings, Jim Cain |
